Experience Lake Leelanau, the land of delight.

In the heart of Leelanau County two Lakes meet at The Narrows. These waters, and the town in between, are known as Lake Leelanau or land of delight. It’s home to beautiful views, a refreshing summer retreat, and a wealth of recreational opportunities. Let’s take a closer look at what makes Lake Leelanau unique.

Wrapped in 41 miles of coastline North and South Lake Leelanau are connected by a channel known as The Narrows. Visitors can access the lake at several points including Nedow’s Beach at Bartholomew Park near Leland. Centerville and Bingham Township Park are popular launch sites for boaters with parking and restroom facilities. Marine gas is available at Lake Leelanau RV Park, a lakeside campground which offers slips for resort guests.

The land surrounding Lake Leelanau remains largely pastoral. Forests, orchards and pastures fill the horizon. The wetlands provide a healthy habitat for bird watching while the pike, bass, and panfish attract anglers each season. Just south of the bridge is Fountain Point Resort, a historic landmark and popular vacation destination. Wooden docks lead to modern amenities including The Boathouse Winery on the banks of The Narrows, where you can pick up a bottle to share with your crew.

With an average depth of 23 feet South Lake Leelanau is easy to navigate and popular for swimming and sailing. Pass below M-204 at the Narrows and connect to North Lake Leelanau, which is half the area but almost the same volume, with a deep water point of 121 feet.

Travel northwest and follow the winding Leland River past boat houses and marinas into one of the Region’s most popular towns. In Leland, water levels are maintained by the dam in Fishtown, and flow into Lake Michigan. This historic fishing village is a perfect destination for boaters looking for shopping, restaurants, and beaches. The lakes and bays of northern Michigan hold a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike. There’s nothing better than a view of the water, except the view from the water.
